Flawless Base Routine

For someone who works upwards of 12 hours per day like me a flawless long lasting base is a must!! I have to admit that some days I just wake up and slap on some BB cream a little bit of mascara and rely on coffee to make me lookhuman, but most days require me to actually look respectable especially when I have to meet with clients and business partners. So I have put together my most important steps for a flawless and long wearing base.

My skin is quite dehydrated but other than that fairly normal. It goes without saying that skin prep is sooooo important, make sure you are looking after your skin.

Step 1: It is a crime not to prime!

I can not stress enough how important it is to prime!!! Without something to stick to your makeup will not stay all day. Not only that, it prepares a smooth base for your entire look.

My favourite primers for a flawless base are:

Makeup forever hydrating primer $53*

Laura Mercier Hydrating Primer $61*

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer $52

Step 2: Foundation

Now for the important part, to make your face stay all day you need a good full coverage foundation! But the foundation can’t do all the work, a good application is just as important. I always apply my foundation with a flat top brush like the real techniques buffing brush, then go over it with a beauty blender to get the fullest coverage. My biggest tip here is ‘Don’t bring your foundation up all the way under your eyes!!!’ If you plan on wearing concealer under your eyes, the build up of foundation underneath will only cause your under eyes to crease. Less is more!

My all time favourite foundations are:

L’Oreal True Match Foundation $29.95

Dior Skin Star $86

IT cosmetics CC cream $ (while not technically a foundation, THE BEST COVERAGE!) $58

And a new favourite I have discovered Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24H $91

Step 3: Contour

This is my favourite step, I feel as though a good contour can transform a whole look. it can take you from 0-100 real quick. When I am after a contour that will last all day I always opt for cream contour then set with a powder. For some of you, a cream contour may be a little too much for everyday wear, if this is the case, go for a cream bronzer like the Chanel Tan de Soleil (now, this is a little pricey for a bronzer but it is worth very cent. I have had mine for so long and I have barely made a dent) This will give you a little bit of shape, without being too heavy.

My must have contour kits are:

Makeup revolution cream contour kit $13.60

IT Cosmetics My Sculpted Face $58

Step 4: Highlight and Blush

No base is complete without a highlight that can be seen from space now is it? Even if you are just going to work, make sure you remind everyone that your highlight is brighter than their future!

My favourite Highlight palettes are:

Anastasia Beverly Hills That Glow $40USD

Tarte Skin Twinkle palette $60

Step Five: SET!

Without a good setting spray or powder it will be hard for your face to stay all day!  Setting your face will lock it in place no matter what the day throws at you!

My holy grail setting sprays are:

Make Up For Ever Mist and Fix $43

Urban Decay Chill Cooling Spray $49

I am always on the hunt for new base products to try, let me know your holy grails!!
